01THE TEACHING SPRINT & NARRATIVE

The First Time at the Front of the Room: Finding My Voice at 14

How an intimidating first workshop for 15+ community children unlocked a permanent passion for teaching, communication, and human connection.

"At fourteen, I was terrified of standing at the front of a room. But watching children's eyes light up when their code made a sprite move on screen unlocked something permanent in me: a realization that sharing knowledge is one of the most rewarding things an engineer can do."
Chapter 01

Conquering the Fear of Standing Up Front

In July 2022, right as I was turning 14 at IDN Boarding School, our curriculum challenged us to go out into the local community and teach what we had learned. Standing before 15+ elementary and junior high students at Griyya Sunnah, my hands were shaking. I worried: 'Will they listen to someone who is only fourteen?' But the moment I projected Scratch on screen and showed them how connecting two blocks could make a cat dance and play music, all artificial barriers dissolved. Children don't care how old you are; they care whether you are patient, encouraging, and genuinely excited about what you're sharing.

Chapter 02

The Seed of a Lifelong Habit

We walked through creating a simple chase mini-game where a player controlled a fish avoiding a moving shark. When errors happened, we gathered around the screen and solved them together like a team of detectives. That afternoon in Bogor permanently shaped who I am: it was the direct catalyst that gave me the confidence to later teach teachers at SMPN 25, lead workshops at SMA Lazuardi, and speak confidently in front of corporate executive clients.

Foundational Lessons from My First Workshop

The lessons that started my teaching journey at age fourteen.

Passion and Patience Trump Age

When you explain things with genuine patience and joy, students respond to your energy, not your age. Credibility is built through empathy.

Teaching is the Ultimate Retention Tool

Nothing cements your own technical foundation like having to deconstruct it for a curious 10-year-old asking 'Why does that work?'
